Monthly Favorites: January

             1. I got to attend the National Retail Federation's Student Program in Manhattan a few weeks ago. I haven't been to New York since I was a kid, so it was an adventure. I got a lot of experience on the subway traveling back and forth from my cousin's apartment in Brooklyn to the conference in uptown Manhattan. The conference was for college students who are interested in working in retail, whether that be on the storefront or corporate level. They had CEOs from a bunch of different companies such as Neiman Marcus, &pizza, Story, Warby Parker, Sam's Club, and even Daymond John from Shark Tank. I want to own my own fashion and lifestyle brand one day, so the weekend was very helpful and encouraging. I met a lot of cool professionals as well as other students. I honestly don't know what it is about January that makes it go by so slow. I think it is the transition. January personally felt long to me because it was split into a bunch o...

Winter Wardrobe Part 2

Image
Sweater: Similar Here  and Here , Leggings: Aerie , Boots: Similar Here (on sale!),  Here , and Here , Ring: Madewell I wore these leggings in my last post . This time I paired it with a cable knit sweater and leather riding boots I've had for five or so years. They're classic pieces in my closet that I don't wear too often, but haven't given away since every year I find new ways to style them. The leggings add a fun twist, and make the outfit less preppy. I also like how the outfit is comfy, but is not sweats. Example: I wore this outfit for Christmas dinner- I felt comfortable all day but still felt "presentable" for the occasion. As I've mentioned before, I'm a photographer (you can check out my portfolio site here ) and collect cameras. My dad gave me this brownie camera for Christmas. It belonged to his mother, so it was a super special gift. I'm still searching for the right film and developer for it, but when I find them I can't wait to ...

Winter Wardrobe Part 1

Sweater: Similar Here , Shirt and Mug: Target, Leggings: Aerie , Boots: Macy's We're only a month into the official winter season and it has already kicked our butts. Even though it has been snowy and bone-chilling cold, winter is still one of my favorite seasons. I love cozy ensembles that help me stay warm. I got this sweater on sale and it has been a go-to this season. It's thick and neutral colored which makes it great for layering over any shirt. My housemates gave me these leggings for my birthday. They are super soft and a great way to add color to my outfit without being overstated.  Besides layering, I also drink a lot of hot beverages to stay warm in the winter. My sister gave me this cute mug for Christmas. It has a wintery design that puts me in a good mood whenever I use it!  Hope you're taking time to enjoy and make the most of the winter season- whether you're in a tropical climate or below freezing temps like me!

Blanket Sweater

Sweater: Similar Color  Here , Shirt: Similar Here , Here , and Here , Jeans: American Eagle, Boots: Similar Here  and  Here Blanket scarves are a huge trend in the fall and winter, and can be worn not only around the neck, but around the shoulders like a shawl. This sweater feeds off of that trend. I like to wear it when I'm home (it's actually my sister's but I borrow it a lot- #sisterperks) in the winter because the wrap fit and thick material makes it warm and cozy like a blanket.  Because the sweater's plaid pattern is a bit preppy for my personal style, I paired it with a tucked in graphic tee and my combat boots to make it edgier (the boots also come in handy for walking in the snow).  I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I personally enjoy winter, even with all of its struggles (I  acknowledge though that living in the south, I experience a generally mild winter). However, I love layering pieces from my closet during the season to create new coz...

Back Home

Flannel and Blouse: Target, Necklace: Altr'd State, Jeans: American Eagle, Shoes: Macy's This was my last winter break before I graduate. It is also the first break that I've spent almost entirely at home in two years. For the past two summers I have had jobs out of town and out of state and last winter break I took a class abroad. I loved those experiences, but it is nice to be home for a month, especially since I will soon be moving out for good.  I live in a small, rural county and while my house is in the suburbs, it is surrounded by country. My backyard has woodlands and a creek that's beauty I don't appreciate enough.  When I wear this flannel I feel connected to my hometown and its style. The style of my town is casual and reflects the rural/suburban atmosphere. Flannels are a huge trend because they have the comfort of a sweatshirt with the style of a real shirt. And because they come in so many color combinations they are practically customizable. My flanne...
